Welcome to REALity Bites—your go-to source for real, unfiltered insights on brand and marketing (plus other stuff) for financial advisors, delivered at delightfully random intervals.
If you're reading this, you're a REALity Bites original. Thanks for signing up and giving life to an idea that’s been dancing around in my head for way too long.
Marketing Feels
Here’s how the crowd at Principal’s Day during the Paragem conference responded when I asked, “What does ‘Marketing’ mean to you?”
You’ll recognise this word cloud. It’s pretty cool.

As you could tell from my reaction, I’m not at all surprised that marketing gets a bad rap.
I get it. It took me years to embrace being a 'marketer' and shake off the stigma.
But now, I’m comfortable in my own skin, playing in a corner of the marketing world that’s all about being real—helping good humans share their message meaningfully and sustainably.
I hope, over time, I can help you shed those marketing 'icks' and see it with a fresh perspective.
Pimping your Google Business Profile
One of the steps I suggested to make your advice brand more ‘swipe rightable’ is to optimise your Google Business Profile.
If you already have a profile, it’s what shows up on the right-hand side of Google search results on a desktop and often appears as the top result on mobile when someone searches for your business name and location. It also boosts your visibility in local searches, like "Financial Advisor [your location].

REALity Reads
The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.
This book is packed with so many nuggets of gold, my highlighter went into overdrive.
I highly recommend this book to anyone fascinated by the EQ side of money.

Some favourite nuggets from the book:
"Few topics offer a more powerful magnifying glass to explain why people behave the way they do than money. It is the greatest show on earth."
“People do crazy things with money. But no one is crazy. Here’s the thing: People from different generations, raised by different parents who earned different incomes and held different values, in different parts of the world, born in different economies, experiencing different job markets with different incentives and different degrees of luck, learn very different lessons.”
“The highest form of wealth is the ability to wake up every morning and say, “I can do whatever I want today. The ability to do what you want, when you want, with who you want, for as long as you want, is priceless. It is the highest dividend money pays”.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and questions to help make REALity Bites something you’re excited to see in your inbox.
Cheers,
Lisa
